Sarah Breckenridge an Association Montessori Internationale trained Infant Community Director at Inner Sydney Montessori School. ISMS is an authentic Montessori community where children are inspired as learners to grow into peaceful, influential and self-reliant young people who create a better world.
Sarah is the mother of two young men now, 20 and 22. Originally she trained as a general nurse moving into paediatrics and specialising in oncology. She worked with the NSW Cancer Council for 12 yrs running support groups and providing information to patients and families.
Both of her boys attended the Inner Sydney Montessori School from the age of 18 months to 12 years which is where her love of Montessori first grew. In 2011 she started the Association Montessori International diploma training plus an apprenticeship role at the school where she now works as a Director of the Infant Community.
The Infant Community runs five different programs which Sarah coordinates. The programs cater for the family from pregnancy through to three year olds. We work with the families to support the child’s independence in a prepared environment while guiding the parents through the developmental stages of early childhood and how best to support it.
At the conference Sarah will be offering an insight into who Maria Montessori was and what Montessori is today. She will look closely at what Montessori offers us to guide the under three year old and the work that she does at ISMS. She will answer delegates questions and provide some simple presentations of the sort of work ISMS offer the child and ways in which it can be offered in the home by examining what a Montessori prepared environment looks like for 0- 5/5-12/12- 36 months. This will involve some hands-on work and demonstrations. She will answer delegates questions and hopefully leave them with a clearer understanding of what the Montessori method is all about and how to implement it in the home.
