Parents are auctioning off the care of their children online on Australian sharing economy platform Airtasker.
Airtasker allows users to post jobs for everything from cleaning to assembling furniture and, more controversially, babysitting.
Australian Nanny Association president Annemarie Sansom says the practice raises serious concerns for the safety of children.
“People are putting a price on their children which I think is concerning and shocking,” she says. “A lot of them don’t have any details, just ‘I need someone to look after my daughter or son’.”
Ms Sansom says people applying for the positions often don’t have Working With Children checks let alone experience in caring for children.
