There are many things to consider when starting work in a home/new home. Some of them may have been covered during the original interview and subsequent discussions, but we recommend you consider the following things.
- Discipline of children. Options available to you.
- What to do if conversations with the children move on to religious points.
- How often are you expected to take the children out on excursions. What sort of excursions would the family like you to do.
- Food preferences – both medical and lifestyle.
You will also need to do some paperwork. While this is often annoying and arduous, it can save problems later on.
Risk Assessment Form
You need to ensure the environment of the house and surrounds is safe for both you and the children.
Medicine Administration Forms.
Your should cover both prescription medications, but also guidelines on non-prescription medications like panadol.
Incident Reporting Forms.
Child Safe Australia has produce an Incident Reporting Form.
While this is only required for “organisations”, it is good practise to record details of any significant incident as soon as possible.
